June, 1940.
World War 2 has been raging for nine months.
The air war is moving steadily closer to the shores of Britain; in one month the Battle of Britain will begin.
Despite the valiant efforts of the RAFs Spitfire and Hurricane pilots, the threat of the Luftwaffe is growing stronger.
However, the RAF has an ace up its sleeve - Operation Black Jet; the development of a top secret, highly advanced fighter plane. An aircraft incorporating machinery taken from the wreckage of a flying saucer.
Making the historical test flight is Guy Douglas, a man destined to change the war
and the future.
Operation Black Jet is a three part mini-series by Morris Banham and Cosmo White. Fighter pilots, secret agents, nazis and aliens mix it up in this retro futuristic thriller.

Interview with Cosmo White:
Cosmo, tell us more about Operation: Black Jet.
Black Jet is a sci-fi adventure in which alien technology has altered the events of the Second World War. It's about a test pilot called Guy Douglas who gains incredible powers from an extra-dimensional alien race and fights in WWII as Black Jet, before being flung forward in time to the 50s. There he meets his future counterpart Jet Black. It's a lot of the themes from classic 60s superhero comics - experimental rockets, super-soldiers, Nazi plots. But we're giving them a modern spin, in a retro-futuristic British ‘flying ace' style.

How did you come up with the idea for the series?
I was actually in an antiques shop and I saw a pair of black jet earrings - I just thought it was a really cool name. I originally envisaged a Green Lantern - like hero who was empowered by some, well, Black Jet. He looked like Zenith but with big rocket jets in his wrists.
Luckily, I was talking with my friend and writer Morris Banham about a WWII pilot/spy screenplay at the time and the two ideas kind of merged together.
Will there be any further Operation: Black Jet after the initial three issues?
I think the characters have great potential, so you never know. |

Christ! Who the hell are they? |

A sequel is rumoured, tentatively entitled 'Black Jet: Cold War', but a greater likelihood is that Black Jet will appear in future Underfire anthologies. Meanwile, marvel at Morris's swishy new logo. |
